Michael Raymond “Mickey” Kappes, 46, of Westminster, died Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at his home after a year-long battle with melanoma. Born January 24, 1972 in Baltimore, he was the son of Mary Lou Moore and Albert James “Jim” Kappes III. He was married to Lura Kappes, with whom he would of celebrated 25 years in September.
He was employed at High View of Hunt Valley in maintenance and was known for his excellent carpentry skills. He enjoyed racing at 75/80 and Mason Dixon Dragway, gardening, and spending time with his family and dogs.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is survived by his grandmother, Marie Kelley, brother Albert James Kappes IV and his wife Christina, step-mother Gail Kappes, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Allison and Doug Lindahl, Meagan and Matt Hall and Charles E. Barnhart, Jr., nieces and nephews Joe, Jake and Josh Kappes, Sarah, Lacey, and Maggie Hall, Romy, Alexandra, and D.J. Lindahl and mother-in-law Mary Hall.
He was predeceased by his beloved grandfather Raymond “Bunk” Kelley.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Rev. Art Monroe and Deacon Charles E. Barnhart, Jr. co-officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Taneytown.
