Mildred Kathaleen Jacobs Obituary

Mildred “Millie” Kathaleen Jacobs, nee Akers, 98, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Carroll Hospital. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.

Millie was born on January 24, 1926 in Thorpe, West Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Millard Harvey Akers and Flora Lena Clark Akers, and the fifth of their seven children. When Millie was a teenager, the family relocated to Allisonia, Virginia, where much of her extended family still lives. As an adult, Millie moved to Washington, D.C., where she met her beloved husband, Calvin Jacobs, who preceded her in death in 1984. The couple established their home and raised three children in Rockville, Maryland, where Millie would remain until 2020. She was a cherished member of her community, active in her church, and a friend to many in her neighborhood.

Millie loved the simple things in life. She took pride in maintaining her home and enjoyed crafting, duckpin bowling, jigsaw puzzles, country music, classic movies, books, and the company of family and friends. She was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, Baltimore Orioles, Washington Wizards, and University of Maryland football and basketball and rarely missed a game. She had a great sense of humor and a sweet tooth. She was strong and stoic, kind and generous. She always offered her hand to anyone in need and always had treats for any child or pet in her presence.

She is survived by her children Gloria Hebert and husband John, Richard Jacobs and wife Lynn, and Dennis Jacobs and wife Julie; grandchildren Keith Jacobs and wife Michelle, Brian Jacobs and wife Kathleen, Eric Jacobs and partner Karie Turner, Lindsay Hebert, Daniel Hebert and wife Janet, Kari Jacobs and husband Phil Casady, and Teri Hebert; great-grandchildren Kaidyn, Carly, Tyler, Luke, Derrick, Kendra, Andrew, Evelyn, Noel, Owen, and Brooke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a date to be determined and the interment will be private.

As her favorite singer, Randy Travis, sang, “It’s not what you take when you leave this world behind you; it’s what you leave behind you when you go.” Millie leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness; a devoted family who will always love and miss her dearly; and nearly a century’s worth of wonderful memories.
