Nevin Edward Tasto, 74, of Westminster, MD passed away Friday, May 7th, 2021. Born April 4, 1947 in Hanover, PA, Nevin was the son of Paul and Myra (Masemer) Tasto.  Nevin was the loving husband of Dixie (Dodrer) Tasto for 47 years.

Nevin is survived by his three daughters, Debbie Free & husband Mike of Glenville, PA; Dollie Green & husband Delbert of Westminster, MD; and Daisie Carroll of San Antonio, TX.  Nevin is also survived by three granddaughters; Vickie Green and Nichole Green of Westminster, MD, and Brittany Carroll of San Antonio, TX.

In addition, Nevin is survived by sister, Shirlee Tasto, and brother and sister-in-law Larry & Dianne Tasto, all of Westminster, MD.

Nevin is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Nevin was a graduate of the class of 1965 from North Carroll High School.  Nevin started auctioneering in 1961 at the North Carroll High School Council Student Fundraiser, where he held the office of president of Student Council and FFA.  Nevin also held the office of State Secretary for the State FFA program.

Nevin belonged to and was a leader of the Manchester Boys 4-H club for many years.  Nevin was the Superintendent for the Carroll County tractor driving program from 1972 until present.  In 1969, Nevin helped to start the Carroll County tractor pulling contest at the Ag Center, where he still assisted thru today.  Nevin also announced classes for tractor pulling.  Nevin was also a past member on the Ag Center and Fair boards. Nevin assisted with the Mason Dixon Historical Society Steam and Gas Engine show, where he announced the show and auctioneered at their consignment sale.  Nevin also assisted with the consignment sale at the Maryland Steam Historical Society.

In 1986, Nevin took over the Good Friday Auction and moved it to it’s current location.  In prior years, Nevin also auctioneered at Snyder’s Auction in Hampstead, MD and worked at and later owned Double A Auction in Taneytown, MD.

Nevin also worked at the Westminster Livestock Auction and started the Westminster Hay Auction in 1983.

Nevin was a well-known and devoted auctioneer for 58 years.  When asked about his career choice, Nevin smiled and said, “I love auctioneering, and I hope to continue it for many more years to come.  During the years, with my career choice of auctioneering, I have met a lot of wonderful people, that I am proud to call my friend.”

In Nevin’s spare time, he enjoyed family vacations, going to and announcing tractor shows, and especially spending time with his daughters and granddaughters.
