Paul Marriott was born in Cumberland, Md. on January 9, 1937. He grew up on Bedford Street, graduated from Allegany High School and received an associate degree from Frostburg Teachers College (Frostburg State University) where he met Barbara Ann Wolford, the love of his life. After Frostburg, he attended the University of Maryland and studied civil engineering. From there he worked at the Army Defense Mapping Agency in Arlington, Va. and then Bechtel Corporation in Gaithersburg, Md., a global engineering company, until he retired. In 1961 he married Barbara Ann, who also relocated from Cumberland to the DC area. They raised two children, Paul Daniel Marriott of Washington, DC (partner Charlie Zavalianos) and Linda Marie Renner, née Marriott, of Taneytown, Md. (husband Doug Renner). In 1993, Paul and Barbara retired to their beloved Williamsburg, Va. Both were volunteers for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, with Paul working for the engineering department. He also volunteered for the James City County Fire Department and was instrumental in updating their maps to GIS format—he was honored by both organizations for his volunteerism. Sadly, Barbara predeceased him in 2006 after many years living with cancer. More recently, Paul was a welcome face at Hospice House of Williamsburg where he was best known as the affable flower delivery guy.Paul died peacefully in hospice care at Lookabout Manor in Westminster, Md. on July 1st. In addition to his children, he leaves behind three grandchildren from his daughter, Colin, Hannah and Noah. Paul will be remembered for his attention to detail, generosity of spirit and faith in humanity. His and Barbara’s asheswill be interred at Williamsburg Cedar Grove Cemetery at a future date. The family requests donations sent to Lookabout Manor and James City County Fire Department.
