Raymond Green Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond (“Ray”, “Bud”) Edgar Green, 93, of Sykesville, on Monday, September 27, 2021.  He was born on March 8, 1928 on a farm on Cherry Tree Lane, Sykesville, to the late Aaron Arthur and Margie Babylon Green.  He was the youngest of four boys and was raised by his father and Aunt Cora after his mother passed when he was four years old.  He met his wife, Ruby Cordell Green at Franklin’s dancehall in Taylorsville, MD, and together, built their beautiful life and family in Sykesville over the next 70 years.

Ray attended Sykesville and Westminster High School.  He worked in many trades—part of the crew that built the Mechanicsville Elementary School in Gamber where many of his grandchildren attended school, exercised horses at Pimlico Race Track, was employed for 35 years at Black and Decker Manufacturing Company in Hampstead, MD, Real Estate Agent for Jim Erb, and worked for a short period of time with the Carroll County Roads Department.  He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, crabbing, playing cards, puzzles, watching Oriole games on TV, repairing small engines such as lawn mowers, string trimmers, snowblowers, etc. He also followed in his father’s footsteps by planting a garden and supplying family and friends with fresh vegetables. He was always willing to help family, friends, and neighbors alike.  As his grandchildren would say, “Pappy could fix anything!”   He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Gamber.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Carolyn R. Hill and husband David, Gamber; Randy C. Green and wife April, Wimauma, FL; and Candice R. Yates and husband John, Westminster. Grandfather to Captain Katrina L Hill, USN;  Anni L. Foster, Phoenix, AZ; Jon Hill and wife Christine, Randy C. Green, Jr. and wife Heather, Westminster, MD; Mathew Schweiger and wife Amy; Taneytown, MD and Kristin Kelly and husband Graham, Wilmington, NC.  He is also survived by his eleven great-grandchildren, Gus Svoboda, George W. Foster, Lillian and Luke Hill, Darcie Green, Jordyn, Aubree and Dylan Schweiger, Ryder Atkinson and Colin and Parker Tomlin and many nieces and nephews. He was excited to be expecting his twelfth great-grandchild in the coming days.

He was predeceased by son, Douglas William Green; grandson, Michael D. Schweiger, Jr., great-granddaughter Katelyn Faith Hill, brothers Howard Green, Sr., Clarence Joseph Green and Francis Green.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.  Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
