Richard Blosveren Obituary

Richard J. Blosveren, 90, of Westminster, passed away January 25, 2024.

Richard was born on October 7, 1933, in New Haven Connecticut and raised in the Bronx, New York. He was the son of the late Harry and Rita (Gross) Blosveren.

For 60 years he was dedicated to loving his wife Carmen Blosveren, who passed away November 3, 2022. He is survived by his daughter Barbara and son-in-law Ray Paddock, his son David and daughter-in-law Sheila, granddaughter Katie and her husband Chance Hogue, grandson Jake Blosveren and great granddaughter Charlotte Hogue. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Blosveren.

Richard was a graduate of Stuyvesant High School in New York City, served 4 years in the Army and attended City College of New York, Baruch School of Business earning a degree in accounting.

Richard started his career at Random House in New York City in 1960 where he met his wife Carmen. They moved to Westminster in 1968 where Richard managed the information systems at Random House’s newly opened distribution center. As Vice President of Information Systems, Richard played a key role in innovation and change in the publishing world and shared his knowledge at conferences and as a lecturer at the New York University. He worked for Random House until his retirement in 1995.

After retiring, he enjoyed many European vacations with Carmen, and trips exploring the west coast with his daughter and son-in-law, and visiting Ocean City to see his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren.

Richard was an active member of his community. He served on advisory panels for the local Board of Education, helping to integrate computer systems and to maintain stringent curricula for their business programs. He also tutored for the Literacy Council. Richard was a member of the Elks, served on the boards of the of the Arts Council, and was treasurer and chapter chair for the Carroll County Wine Society. For thirty years, members of the Wine Society enjoyed the annual champagne tasting event hosted by Richard and Carmen in their home.

Richard and Carmen moved to Carroll Lutheran Village in 2019, where he continued being an active community member, serving on committees and attending a variety of classes including an art class where he became a prolific sketch artist, recreating trips he took with his wife and creating portraits of his family.

Richard will be remembered for being a devoted husband, a perfect father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was very thankful that his children, Barbara and David grew up to be wonderful people and that his wife Carmen made him a very lucky guy.

The burial will be private. A celebration of Richard’s life will be held later in the spring.
