Richard Grimsley Obituary

Richard Grimsley, 81, of New Windsor, MD, passed away on August 22, 2024.  Born in Washington, DC, he was the beloved son of the late George and Eleanor Grimsley.

Richard grew up in Silver Spring and graduated from Northwood High School in 1961. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Physical Education from High Point College and his masters degree in Education from George Washington University. Upon graduating, he returned to Northwood High School to teach History and coach basketball, track, and cross county. Richard moved to Magruder High School in 1974, where he was the Physical Education teacher and Athletic Director. After 35 years with Montgomery County Public Schools, he retired in 2001.

Richard loved his family and friends, always spending time with them as much as possible. He especially loved watching his grandchildren grow, and cheering them on in their sports and school activities. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed watching sports and horse racing, eating crabs, fishing, and spending time at the beach.

Richard is survived by his former wife, Diana Grimsley and children: Scott Grimsley, Kelly Grimsley (Cara), Holly Schertz (Bret); grandchildren: Winnie, June, Davis, Eliot, Sydney, Joshua, Ryan; brother: John Grimsley; niece and nephew: Lisa Liskey and Johnny Grimsley.
