Robert Thomas Hodge Obituary
Robert “Bob” Thomas Hodge, 79, of Westminster, Maryland, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026. Born on March 12, 1947, in Hillsborough County, Florida, Bob lived a life rooted in creativity, dedication, quiet strength, and deep love for his family.
Bob was the beloved husband of Marlena Hodge, the love of his life, who preceded him in death on October 6, 2021. Their bond was one of lasting devotion, and though losing Marlena changed him deeply, his love for her never faded.
He was the loving son of the late Doris Gerhardt and William Hodge. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Donna Blauciak and Patricia Sipes. He is survived by his sister, Suzanna Suszcyk, his loving brother-in-law John Russell, sister-in-law Becky Russell, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Bob was a proud and devoted father to his children, Scott C. Hodge, Jessica N. Hodge, and Rebecca E. Hodge. His children will forever carry with them his guidance, steady presence, wisdom, humor, and unconditional love.
For over 35 years, Bob dedicated himself to teaching Architectural Design in Howard County, where he inspired generations of students with his creativity, patience, and passion for design. Teaching was more than a profession to him; it was a calling. Even after retirement, his passion for architecture and craftsmanship continued as he worked with FountainCraft in Baltimore up until his passing.
Beyond his work, Bob found joy in life’s quieter moments. He was a gifted craftsman who carved beautiful wooden birds by hand, each piece reflecting his patience, artistry, and appreciation for nature. He loved fishing, photography, and spending time with his beloved dogs, who brought him comfort and companionship throughout the years.
Bob will be remembered as an intelligent, talented, and deeply caring man whose calm presence made others feel safe and valued. He leaves behind not only the work of his hands and mind, but the lasting impact of his kindness, guidance, and love on all who knew him.
A service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at his beloved church, Church 3.0 in Westminster, a place that brought him great comfort, faith, friendship, and community. The date and time of the service will be communicated to friends and family at a later date. Inurnment will be private.
One of Bob’s favorite quotes was:
“What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.”
— Albert Pike
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Donate Life America https://donatelife.net/ in Bob’s honor, as he was the grateful recipient of a life-saving double lung transplant in January of 2019.
Though his family’s hearts are broken by this loss, they find peace in knowing he is reunited once again with his beloved Marlena. Bob will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family, friends, former students, colleagues, and all whose lives he touched.
