He was very successful and won many awards and contests, one of which he and his wife traveled to Holland, Netherlands. He was a big fan of sprint car racing and watching his son-in-law Steve.
Surviving are his son, Philip Eckard and wife Donna of Union Bridge; daughter Pamela Hughes Owings and husband Steve of Westminster; and son Scott Hughes and fiancé Andrea of Lebanon, Indiana; granddaughter Alissa Owings and nephew David Greene and his wife Kathy, and their children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Sandra Hughes.
