Roger Holcomb Obituary

Roger Lynn Holcomb, 73, of Taneytown, passed away at home, with his family by his side on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Born March 27, 1950 in Greene, New York, he was the son of the late Harvey L. Holcomb and Pauline M. Canniff Whitaker. He was the beloved husband for 23 years of the late Jo Ann Holcomb.

Roger was a horse trainer, specializing in reining horses. He was a member of the National Reining Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. Roger spent many years training on the east coast. In his early years, he worked and trained at Willow Brook Farms. Later in life, he worked at Brian Bell’s in North Carolina. He also had his own training operations in Maryland throughout the years. He gained many fans and lifelong friends along his journey. He joined the US Marine Corp and returned home as a Vietnam Veteran. He recently became a member of the Harney VFW Post 6918.

Roger was a wonderful husband, father and friend, a devoted expert horseman and Marine. He was a force, a mentor, a great example of an incredible human. He was always available to help and support others in the true horseman manner. Roger was someone that deserved the respect he received and commanded….without even realizing it.

He is survived by his sons Roger Holcomb, Jr. (Joy) and Craig Holcomb (Casey); grandchildren Avynn and Madelynn, Brooke, Trent, Conner, Courtney and Cadence; step-daughters Laura McHenry (Andy), Teresa Starr (fiancé Mike) and Kristin Collins (Josh); step-grandchildren Camden, Bryn, Gabe, Perrin, Sullivan and Anna Kate; step great-grandson Jaydn; sisters Nancy Wiggins (Mike) and Deanna DeGolier (Jay); brother-in-law Richard Buchanan. Roger had some very special friends that have helped him out along the way, Jason, Crystal, Jeff, Kerri, Kirk, Sam, Quickie, Kim, Kevin, Melissa, Rick, Val, Brenda and many more.

He was predeceased by his sister Ethel Buchanan and step-father Fremont Whitaker.
