Russell Miller, Jr. Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Russell B. Miller, Jr., 96, of Finksburg, MD on March 31, 2021. He was a loving son to the late Hilda V. Miller and Russell B. Miller, Sr. He grew up in Westminster, MD where he met and married his beloved wife of 64 years, the late Hilda M. Miller. Together they went on many adventures in their RV with the Good Sam Club called Carroll Wagons and enjoyed their winter seasons camping in Florida with friends.

He is the father of Russell B. Miller III; Gary E. Miller and wife Sandra ;and Nancy K. Hooper and husband Warren (Woody); and devoted grandfather of Michael Miller and wife Samantha; Aimee Miller; Justin Miller and wife Sharra; Kelsie Gray and husband Jeff; Aaron Hooper and wife Brittni; and Abby Hooper and partner Ryan. He is survived by his eight great grandchildren; Eli and Finn Gray; Jace, Raleigh Mae and Wyatt Miller; Kyra Clark and Zach Mansel; and Ray Hooper. Russell is also survived by his sister Anna and husband Ted; sisters-in-law Mary Alice Rosenberger, Betty Young, Dolly Howard, Janet Miller; and brothers-in-law Harry (Bud) Hughes and Wilfred Hoff. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Vernon Miller.

Russell graduated from Westminster High School in 1943. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army until 1946. He worked as a licensed electrician at his family-owned electrical business, Miller’s Electrical Service, until 1974 and later earned his teaching certificate at the University of Maryland. He was asked to instruct electrical classes at the newly built Carroll County Vo-Tech School and his kind demeanor proved that he was not cut out to be a teacher. He decided to take a job with Westminster Plumbing and Heating Supplies where he worked until his retirement, though he never stopped serving his community as a well-respected electrician.

He was a member of the Carroll County Electrical Association for more than twenty years. His favorite hobbies included collecting model trains that he put on display for family and friends to enjoy. He also entertained his family with magic shows that became a holiday tradition. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church that he attended his entire adult life. His knowledge and love for Carroll County will forever live in his heart.

Donations may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church at 3939 Gamber Road, Finksburg, MD 21048, or Carroll Hospice at 292 Stoner Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157.
