Ruth Olive Simmont, 95, of Westminster, formerly of Ferndale, died Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Westminster Healthcare Center. Born March 28, 1923 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Vanskiver and Katherine Knapp. Her husband Charles F. Simmont died February 1, 1983.
Before retiring she worked at Westinghouse for 35 years. She was a member of Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ. She enjoyed bowling, helping out at the church, gardening, traveling, and being with family.
She is survived by her son Charles F. Simmont Jr. of Westminster; two brothers John Vanskiver of Abingdon and Neal Vanskiver of Crownsville; three grandchildren Beth Raver (Chris) of Hanover, PA, Matthew Simmont (Shelley) of New Braunfels, TX and Kathy Craig (Jim) of Westminster; great-grandchildren, Shane Craig (Emily) of Key West, FL, Dylan Craig of Westminster and Caleb and Lydia Simmont of New Braunfels, TX.
She was predeceased by a daughter Patricia Fisher, grandson Keith Wasmus, daughter-in-law Mary Lou Simmont, brothers Bill and Charles Vanskiver, and devoted companion Bill Hassert.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Rd., Westminster, with her pastor Rev. Jeffry Dull officiating. Interment will follow in Meadowridge Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ, 2950 Old Taneytown Rd., Westminster.
