Sally Jane Steelman, 76, of Westminster, died Monday, February 2, 2026, at her daughter’s residence in Taneytown.  Born August 3, 1949 in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Basil) Klein and George Klein.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Richard Steelman.

She dedicated her life to teaching. She had her master's degree in teaching. She taught for almost 40 years. She started in elementary school, then became a reading specialist and ended her career teaching middle school math.  She then loved helping Ryan and Zoey with their school work as they grew up.

Her family was her everything. She taught Nick and Katie that family comes first before anything else. Her grandkids were her number one joy in her life. She enjoyed more than anything taking her family to OCNJ for beach trips, Disney, attend all of Nick, Katie, Ryan and Zoey’s sporting and school events. She never missed an opportunity to be with Ryan and Zoey.

She loved taking her yearly sister trips to Williamsburg and Rehoboth and enjoyed nothing more than a good shopping deal and different restaurants they would go to. She loved watching the Ravens and MD Terps Women's basketball.

Besides her husband, she was a devoted mother to Nick Selby and Katie Strong (Nick), both of Taneytown; Nana to Ryan Hughes and Zoey Selby of Taneytown; sister Stephanie Muszelik (George) of Reisterstown and brother-in-law Gary Flater.

She was predeceased by a sister Susan Flater.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster.

Memorial services will be held Friday, February 13, 2026 at 1 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 65 Washington Rd., Westminster, MD 21157 with Rev. Matthew Glasgow officiating.
