Samuel Flater, 98, passed away December 21, 2024 at his home in Carroll County, Maryland. He was born March 15, 1926 in Reese to the late Gertrude Violet Flater and grew up in Patapsco with his late grandfather, Marshall Flater.
He served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. He was married for 53 years to the late Aileen Caples Flater who preceded him in death in 2001. He was a carpenter his entire life and enjoyed helping friends and relatives with their home improvement projects. He also enjoyed hunting, crossword puzzles and Sudoku.
He is survived by his children, Deborah Gwynne, Denise Rickell, Donna Lippy, Rodney Flater (Cathy) and Dawn Layton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Matthew Davis, Brent Davis, Jessica Davis, Mark Lippy, Megan Shaffer, Morgan Becker, Patrick Rickell and Samantha Layton and six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Fletcher Funeral and Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster, MD, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service immediately following with Pastor Matthew Schenning officiating. Interment will follow, with military honors, at Sandymount United Methodist Church Cemetery in Finksburg, MD.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Sandymount Methodist Cemetery fund, 1840 Tank Road, Finksburg, MD 21048.
