Shirley M. Rheubottom, age 88, of Westminster, Maryland, departed this life on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at the Dove House in Westminster, surrounded by family and friends.

Shirley was employed for many years at English American Tailoring and then at Carroll Community College until her retirement.

Shirley enjoyed cooking and hosting family gatherings. She was loved by everyone, especially her church family at West Falls Christian Community Church.

Shirley leaves to mourn sister Gladys Smith of York, PA, brother George Smith (Denise) of Silver Spring, sister Bonnie Hilliard of Taneytown, sister Marion Smith, brother Paul Smith, and sister Kathy Luby (Wayne), all of Westminster. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, godchildren Chris and Kimberly Batts and especially nephew, Derick Brightful with whom she took special joy in her role as a grandmother. Shirley was preceded in death by siblings Herman, Henry, James, Marshall, Robert, Joe, Ronnie, Leroy, Merhl, Tommy, and Tammy.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 East Main Street, Westminster MD from 11am-1pm with a celebration of life to follow immediately at 1pm officiated by Bishop Ross Jackson. Interment will take place at the Westminster Cemetery with a repass to follow at the Meadow Branch Church, 818 Old Taneytown Rd, Westminster.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Fairhaven in Sykesville, MD and the Bridging Life Dove House who cared for Shirley in her last years.
