Stephen Randolph Stover Obituary
Stephen Randolph Stover, 54, of Westminster MD, left his mortal coil and gained his angel’s wings on Saturday August 17th, 2024. Stephen was born on December 23, 1969, in Radford, VA to Doris Wynn Ward and James Robert Stover. The family moved from Virginia to Reisterstown and eventually to Taneytown, where Stephen graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 1987.
During high school, Steve worked at Baugher's Restaurant and made numerous friends while indulging in countless shenanigans. After graduation, he attended art school in Pittsburg and culinary school and partied like the rock star he was, living life in the fast lane. Which led him to November 1993 when he joined the United States Coast Guard for 8 years. While in service for his country in Alaska, Hawaii, Ocracoke, California, and other locales, Stephen earned several commendations including a Good Conduct Medal, Coast Guard Sea Service Ribbon, Coast Guard “E” Ribbon, Coast Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon, Secretary’s Award for Outstanding Achievement ( Dot Gold Medal ) Ribbon with Gold Frame, Coast Guard Rifle Marksmanship Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and Coast Guard Meritorious Team Commendation Award, twice. Stephen enjoyed seeing so many different places traveling with the USCG and made many lifelong friendships.
After leaving the Coast Guard, Stephen worked as a chef for many different restaurants including The Boiler House, Linwoods Due, The Wine Market, Fatz, Maryland Mallet, O’Lordans, Lonestar BBQ, Reter’s Crab House, East Coast Waffles, Rock Salt, Blue Bistro, and Sugar High. He loved being in the kitchen and creating special dishes for family and friends. Food was definitely his love language. He would not sit down to eat until everyone was happily fed.
Stephen was preceded in death by his father, beloved mother, brother Ricky, and his beloved cat Hellion.
Stephen is survived by his beloved sister Ruth Deneane Cox and husband Tim of Dublin Virginia, sister Patty Gianzanti and family of New Freedom PA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Stephen was kind to all, generous to a fault, well-loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Celebration of Life Services will begin at 7 p.m. Interment will be private.
