Sterling E. Beard, 102, of Westminster, died Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his residence. Born July 4, 1921in Smallwood, MD, he was the son of the late Margaret E. (Heagy) Beard and George W. Beard. He was the beloved husband of the late Arlene R. Beard.
He retired from the State of Maryland Social Services Dept. and was previously the Vice President of Smith and Reifsnider. Sterling served in the Army Air Force during World War II and was stationed in N. Africa as a Radio Operator.
He was a life-long member of Deer Park United Methodist Church, American Legion Carroll Post No. 31 where he was Past Commander, member of the Forest and Stream Club and devoted member of AA for 48 years, where he sponsored many friends. Sterling was well known for riding in the Memorial Day Parade in Westminster and enjoyed fishing, spending vacations in Ocean City, and attending numerous AA retreats. Most of all, he was devoted to his wife and family.
He is survived by daughter Georgia Beard Danner and husband Wayne of Cocoa, FL; son Allen R. Beard and wife Bobbi of Frederick; grandchildren Justin, Amy and Cliff, great-grandchildren Sterling, Bryce, Caitlin, Emma and Molly.
He was predeceased by a brother Donald Beard.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Interment will be private at Deer Park Cemetery.
