Thelma Holland Obituary

Thelma Mae Holland, 99, of Westminster, died on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the Dove House. Born on April 2, 1923, in Gaylord, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Harold C. Bailey and Irene Mary Milbocker Bailey. She was predeceased by her husband William “Bill” Frank Holland, Jr.

Thelma and Bill moved from Ohio to Westminster with their 6 children in the summer of 1966. Shortly after moving here, she began working as an Administrative Assistant for the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce. She worked until 1972, when she decided to stay at home and devote her time to her family and her many interests of gardening, sewing, playing music on her organ, cooking creative dishes, decorating her home, and political awareness. She could spend hours looking at decorating magazines and gardening books, or reading a good novel, with CSPAN or her favorite news station playing on the TV in the background.

She also devoted her time to helping others in the community through Carroll County Food Sunday, delivering meals to the needy, providing transportation for cancer patients for treatments, and working at Red Cross blood drives. She was a member of the Pioneers of America and spent countless hours sewing bears for their Hug-a-Bear program for children in need of comfort during traumatic situations. Thelma also touched many lives in the Al-Anon Fellowship.

As a member of St. John Catholic Church, Thelma was active with committees that provided fundraising for the church, such as the yearly Christmas Bazaar. She would proudly create beautiful floral/greenery arrangements and various sewn items that would be sold at the yearly event.

She is survived by her children William (Bill) F. Holland III, Renee L. Eckard, Joseph (Joe) E. Holland (wife Ellen), and AnnMarie Yingling (husband Steve); sisters Rosemary Gohm and Carol Wilkinson; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sons, Theodore (Ted) H. Holland and Lawrence (Larry) P. Holland (wife Ginger); grandson Craig J. Eckard; brother Richard Bailey; and sister Kathleen (Leone) Brown.
