Toby John Baust, 78, of Westminster, died Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at home. Born December 1, 1945 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late J. Kenneth Baust and Elsie Fritz Baust.
Toby was a graduate of Westminster High School class of 1963 and was employed by the 3M Company until his retirement. He was a member of the Gamber Smallwood Optimist Club for more than 45 years, serving 30 years as Treasurer and working on their many fundraising events. He coached football, worked the concessions and took care of the fields. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and pitching horseshoes. His most important role was as “Poppie Clyde” to his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Toby is survived by his wife of sixty years, Joyce; son John Baust and wife Cindy; daughter Chris Garland and fiancé Charles Clendaniel; grandchildren Thomas (TJ) Baust, Holly Boger, Bradley Garland, Kristen Holian and Michael Garland; great-grandchildren Chase Boger, Tenleigh Boger, Ella Baust, John Baust and Elliott Garland; and sister Josie Porterfield. He was pre-deceased by brother Tommy and sister Sally.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 27, 2024 from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, Maryland. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 28, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services. Interment will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Uniontown. There will be a luncheon for friends and family after the service at St. Benjamins Lutheran Church, 700 Kriders Cemetery Road, Westminster, Maryland 21158.
