Yolanda Cespedes Hunt Obituary
Yolanda Céspedes Hunt, “Yo” 84, of Silver Spring Maryland, passed surrounded by family and close friends at Holy Cross Hospital on May 2nd, 2025, after a 19 month long battle with leukemia.
Yolanda was born on June 5th, 1940 in Panama City, Panama. She moved to the United States with her family in 1950. Yolanda graduated from George Washington University with a Masters, she then had a long industrious teaching career consisting of 41 years, with the final 37 years at Beverly Farms Elementary School.
She was the daughter of the late Eloise (Fuller) Céspedes, and the late Dr. Francisco S. Céspedes Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James (Jim) W. hunt, her brother, Chi-Chi Jr Céspedes and sister, Amanda R. Céspedes. She is survived by her brother, Francisco P. Céspedes, niece Amanda N Céspedes, three great nieces Braelyn, Brynleigh and Aubriella, and one great nephew, Bentley, along with many friends and family.
Yolanda met the love of her life, Jim, in 1959, and married on July 13th, 1963. They were the best of friends, and enjoyed building a life they loved, together. She took great pride in being a teacher and connecting with her students. Yolanda and Jim moved to Leisure World in 2000, where they became very active members in their community by being on many different boards, and committees. Yolanda loved to travel, especially on cruises, and could be found sitting by any water in her bathing suit throughout the summer. She was a very proud and involved Aunt with her niece and great nieces and nephew. She loved her sports, and would cheer on her Nationals and Commanders. Yolanda will be remembered as a funny, outgoing, independent, dependable, and strong woman, whose presence is going to be greatly missed.
