Mary Jane White

Mary Jane White, 73, of Westminster, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016, at Carroll Hospital.  Born December 5, 1942 in Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late Mary E. Havens-Myer and Robert Clark Myer.  She was the loving wife of John C. White.

Mary Jane “Nana” was a life-long advocate of education, especially for those with special needs.  She spent her career teaching many children and changing many lives in Carroll County, most specifically at Carroll Springs, Robert Moton, New Windsor Middle and Westminster High School.  She retired as the department head of Special Education at Westminster High School.

Nana was loved by many and loved without reservation.  She treated all she encountered with dignity and respect.  She was a valiant fighter who was stricken many times by some new and ever more painful malady.  She never gave up nor sank into self-pity.  Her boundless love extended to all that she encountered be that human, canine or equine.  To love the way Nana loved takes courage.  Our grieving will be tempered by the knowledge that she will no longer suffer.  She will be greatly missed by many, most of all her family who she treasured with all of her heart and soul.

Besides her husband, she is survived by children and spouses Elizabeth White Reese and husband Michael D. Reese, Mel White Rhoads and husband Scott Rhoads and Marshall Clark White and wife Leslie Krebs White, brother Robert Clark Myer and wife Judy Myer, grandchildren Reed Matthew Rhoads, Sarah Elizabeth Marie Rhoads, Gavin Christopher Rhoads, Amanda Katherine Reese, Lila Samran White and Stella Jane White.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral & Cremation Services, 254 E. Main St., Westminster, where memorial services will begin at 4 p.m.  

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ARC of Carroll County, 180 Kriders Church Rd, Westminster, MD 21158.
